Week 31

By Shelby

This was a pretty relaxing week for us. Monday, we worked from Spencer’s grandparents’ Myrtle Beach condo. After work, we made baked chicken, roasted Brussels sprouts and butternut squash, and corn for dinner.

Tuesday went mostly the same. The weather was definitely more tolerable than up north. It was usually cloudy with temperatures in the high 50s to low 60s this week. After work, we just relaxed.

Wednesday, we spent the day playing video games and deciding what we were going to make for Thanksgiving. Then we went grocery shopping. The store was pretty busy, but luckily we were able to get everything we needed.

Thursday, we spent most of the day cooking. In the morning, we watched the Macy’s parade. For Thanksgiving, we roasted a turkey breast, made carrot casserole, sweet potato casserole, homemade stuffing, blueberry cobbler with ice cream, and bread and butter. It was all pretty good.

Friday, we went out to the ocean and played mini golf at one of the many mini golf courses in Myrtle Beach. For lunch, we got taco bell. We wanted to try the new 7 layer nacho fries. They were just ok. Mini golf was a lot of fun.

After mini golf, we went to the boardwalk to walk around. It was very lively, much more than the Atlantic City boardwalk had been. All the restaurants were open, along with the little shops. Lots of other people were also out walking.

After walking along the boardwalk and then back along the ocean, we checked out an arcade. We played lots of games, including skee ball, basketball, a motorcycle racing game, pinball, and more. My favorite was skee ball. With the tickets we won, we got a small blue plastic dolphin.

Saturday, Spencer wanted to check out the pool at the condo. It was sunny and in the 60s. Still too cold for me. The fence around the pool was decorated with Christmas garland. It was kind of weird seeing Christmas decorations, while there were palm trees and a pool right there. Despite the water being freezing, Spencer still cannon balled in.

For lunch, we went to see Spencer’s uncle at the oceanfront Irish pub he worked at. The food was very good, as was the view. It was nice to meet Spencer’s uncle.

After we finished eating lunch, we played a game of pool. Spencer won, of course. I’m not crazy about pool. But it was fun.

We went for a short walk along the beach. There was a surprising amount of people on the beach. A few kids were actually playing in the water. Spencer grabbed the Frisbee from the car, so we threw that around for a bit. When we were done, we returned to the condo and played Minecraft for the rest of the night.

Sunday, we did laundry, including all our sheets from the car, worked on the website, and planned out our next stops on our trip. We plan on staying in Myrtle Beach until Monday or Tuesday before moving on. Sunday evening, we went to Night of a Thousand Candles at Brookgreen Gardens, a Botanical garden. Throughout the garden, there were over 2700 candles lit up. Overall, it’s been a great and relaxing week.

Fun Facts from Week 31:

  • Over 20,000 years ago, there were glaciers at Myrtle Beach. They carved out large divots on the sea floor.
