Visiting the San Antonio Historic Missions
We saw four missions built by the Spanish in the 16 and 1700s
Most of them were in ruins with restored churches
Missions were built to convert the native southern Texans to the catholic church
A nice nature trail to the diverted river
This was an aqueduct built to water crops
Cool to see some of the oldest European structures in the US
Luckily all the missions were close close together, so it didn’t take long to drive between them
This was my favorite
It was the most restored and had the most exhibits and information
A good look at the whole mission, more than just a church
Really they were forts where people lived, learned, and worked
We did a ton of reading here, there was almost too much to learn about
Last one, similar to the others
San Antonio Riverwalk
One of the biggest tourist attraction in Texas
Very nice, it did not disappoint
We didn’t forget the Alamo!
We loved all the water features and bridges along the river walk

Trail was washed out so we had to climb around this hill on the side
Heading into the canyon
Wow wow wow
Everything on the left of the river is Mexico
Walking back, cool trail

Driving to our campsite
It got dark fast
Trying to stargaze but the moon is too bright
Our campsite that we never used or even saw in daylight
So peaceful in the mountains
Hmm the moon looks like the sun
Probably the best (if not only) full moonset I will ever see
Starting our 10 mile hike
Water break with a view
Our destination in the background
Sample platter of the three most common plants we saw
Very colorful with the sun rising
We saw lots of these beautiful blue birds
Haha it’s looking at Shelby
Chisos Basin and scenic rock cliffs
Starting to get some good views now
Might as well stop for a snack
Getting warmer in the sun
